When I was 12 years old my sister wrote me a letter. Sounds dramatic, I know. We lived in the same house. We shared a room. She was 7 years older than me and was drifting farther and farther away from the sister I knew and loved. She was turning into someone else and she wrote me a letter to warn me about something. To me, this letter was a farewell. After this letter nothing was the same between me and my sister and as I am writing this it has been three years since anyone in my family has had contact with her.
In this letter she told me many things about my journey growing into a teeenager, the things that I should keep in mind, and the precautions that I should take as I grew into a young woman. I don't remember too many specifics about this letter. But there is one thing. One phrase that plays over and over in my head daily:
"Mckynleigh, no matter what mom and dad say, you need to know this ...there are no castles in the sky. There isn't room for big dreams to be achieved. What we see is what we get. There are no castles in the sky."
This blog is a result of that letter.
